Services for Mr. William Alfred Stephens, age 85, of Hallsville, Texas will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at The Cammack Family Welch Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

William Alfred Stephens, known affectionately as Bill to his friends and family, passed away peacefully from natural causes on the 3rd of December, 2024, in Hallsville, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents: James Harlan and Willard Pauline Stephens and son David Wayne Stephens. He is survived by his son Joseph Adam Stephens and Joseph's wife Elizabeth Dawn Stephens. Granddaughter's: Gabrielle Christine Thibodaux and Cayna Lee Stephens. Great grandson's: Jaxson Valor Thibodaux and Liam Vaughn Stephens. He is also survived by his daughter Laura Graves Brown and her family.

Born on the 25th of October, 1939, in Marshall, Texas, Bill's life was characterized by his intelligence, hard work, faith, and a remarkable sense of humor that brought light and laughter into the lives of all who knew him.

Bill's early life on the family farm in Hallsville. Tx. laid a strong foundation for the man he would become. He was a proud graduate of Hallsville High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a love for learning that stayed with him throughout his life. After high school, he answered the call of duty and served his country as a United States Marine, a period of his life that instilled in him a profound sense of discipline and honor.

Upon returning to civilian life, Bill embarked on a successful career as a crane operator with the Texas Eastman Co., where he dedicated 34 years of service. His colleagues knew him as "Wild Bill" a courageous, hard working, reliable and highly skilled crane operator who approached his work with the same integrity and commitment that he applied to every aspect of his life. Bill's interests and activities reflected the breadth of his character. A proud Freemason, he was deeply involved in the brotherhood, embodying its values of charity, truth, and brotherly love. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for hunting and fishing, and the raising, breeding and training of Bluetick Coonhounds. Pursuits that allowed him to appreciate nature's beauty and the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. Bill also loved music and loved to sing and play the guitar.

As an Extra Class amateur radio operator, Bill relished the opportunity to connect with people across the globe, sharing stories and forging friendships over the airwaves. His intelligence was evident in his ability to navigate the technical aspects of this hobby, while his friendly nature shone through in the positive energy he shared with his contacts.

Bill's family was the cornerstone of his life. He took great pride in their accomplishments and was a constant source of support and wisdom. His children remember him not only as a father but also as a mentor and friend. Those who knew Bill will remember him for his exceptional memory, quick wit and the laughter that seemed to follow him wherever he went. His funny anecdotes and joyful spirit were infectious, brightening the days of those around him.
