Wanda Jo "Meme" was born Nov 20,1932, in Hallsville, Texas where she also left her earthly body to reside at her eternal home in Heaven on March 19, 2024.

Wanda grew up in Hallsville, graduated from Hallsville High School in 1950, and was proud to be a Bobcat. She raised her three daughters in Hallsville while working for Stemco Manufacturing in Longview where she retired after 30 years. She became a member of FUMC Hallsville as a young girl and attended there until moving to Gilmer where she joined and became a founding member of Gilmer Missionary Baptist Church, now called West Tyler Baptist Church. In 1992, she moved to Longview and was able to live out her days of retirement going to and serving at church, studying and sharing God's Word, traveling with friends and family, bowling on various leagues and spending time with her family. She returned to Hallsville in the Summer of 2020 where she and her little dog Kanga, lived out her final years with dignity, near her family on the old home place with the assistance of three special "visitors" who made it possible for her to live safely at home while maintaining her independence which was so important to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Jennie Croft Dempsey; brother, Hershel Dempsey and sister, Carrie LaNell Dempsey Summers; husband, Billy "Spooky" Hitt; and father of her children, Dan Buchanan.

Left to cherish her memory and charged to live out her legacy are daughters; Ginger Bailey and husband, Ricky; Judy Nelson and husband, Jimmy; Danita Ford and husband, Byron. Grandchildren, Scott Bailey and wife, Allyson; Buck Nelson and wife, Julie; Jenny Dudley; Jobie Howell and husband, James; Kenni Kiraly and husband, Adam; Paul Ford and wife, Jamey; Cassie Hawthorne and husband, Michael.
