It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Troy Arthur Ladine, age 67, of Hallsville, Texas. Troy passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 in Marshall, Texas. A Life Celebration Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 1st at ETBU Chapel on the Hill, 797 Van Zandt Avenue, Marshall, Texas. The family will receive visitors at the Chapel on the Hill beginning at 9:30 am on the day of the service.
Troy was born June 19, 1956, in Sidney, Nebraska to Richard and Phyllis Ladine. He graduated from Gurley High School and then earned a degree in biology from Bartlesville Wesleyan College where he was a member of the track team. After graduation, he worked as a consultant for several organizations including Philips Petroleum Company and the USDA Soil Conservation Service. He went on to earn a master's degree from The University of South Dakota and a doctoral degree from The University of Memphis. Troy served as an Assistant Professor of Biology at Bethel University and Dana College before joining the faculty of East Texas Baptist University in 2001. During his tenure at ETBU, Troy rose to the rank of Professor. Troy was active in research and mentored numerous students, many of whom remain close to him today. He had an exceptional ability to inspire and empower his students and fostered within them a love for learning and an appreciation for the natural world. Outside of work, Troy cherished the time spent with his children and enjoyed attending their many piano and dance recitals. Their favorite activities were hiking, baking, playing board games, and talking together. Troy coached several youth soccer and softball teams and served as a Sunday school teacher and children's ministry volunteer at First Baptist Church Marshall, Central Baptist Church Marshall, and Mobberly Baptist Church Longview.
Troy is survived by his daughters, Rachel Susanne Ladine of Austin, Texas and Erin Joy Ladine of Conroe, Texas, his sister Lori Coviello and husband Tom of Dalton, Nebraska, nieces Monica Beardsley and husband James of Kingman, Kansas and Kayla Paris and husband Chris of Malvern, Iowa, and numerous cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Phyllis Ladine, his brother, Kevin Ladine, and his nephew, Brandon Miller.
