Susan Alexander Stoker, known affectionately as Susan to all who knew her, passed away on August 3, 2024, in Longview, Texas. Born on October 30, 1961, in Gilmer, Texas, Susan's life was a testament to the power of generosity, spirit, and love. She departed this world in the hospital, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her.
Susan's journey began in the heart of East Texas, where she was raised by her loving father, Charlie Alexander, and her late mother, Jeanette Alexander. Her childhood was filled with the joy of family life alongside her siblings, Ocie (Bart) McMillan and Jay (Jerianne) Alexander. Her formative years were just the beginning of a life marked by her love for Jesus, compassion for others and the joy of giving.
In her early adulthood, Susan attended business school in the 1980s, an experience that equipped her with skills she would later apply in countless acts of service to others. She found her true calling in life, however, not in the halls of commerce but in the daily acts of caring for her family and community. Susan's husband, Tad Stoker, was her partner in life and love, and together they built a beautiful family. She was a devoted mother to Sharlyt (Everett) Asher, Shayne (Alex) Alexander, Shaun Borden, Kameron (Terri) Stoker, and Eric (MariLynn) Stoker.
The joy of motherhood expanded with the arrival of each grandchild and great-grandchild. Susan's love knew no bounds as she embraced her role as a grandmother to Alyssa (Ben) Alexander, Bradley Alexander, Riddick Alexander, Kristopher Alexander, Madison Smith, Bri Smith, Tyler Asher, Kipton Asher, Morgan Borden, SJ Borden, Ella Borden, Kayden Stoker, Emma Stoker, and Alaina Stoker. Her great-grandchildren, Judah and Isaac Anderson, were the newest lights of her life. She also leaves behind her nieces, Jacie Alexander and Macie Mauldin, nephews, Micah and Matthew McMillan and Jacob Alexander, numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and special aunts.
Susan's love extended beyond her immediate family. Her kitchen was the heart of her home and the source of countless meals shared with friends and neighbors in times of need. She was known for arriving with a full meal to support those who were grieving or celebrating. Her generosity was also evident in her careful canning of vegetables, a tradition that ensured her loved ones would always have a taste of summer's bounty.
Her interests were as varied as they were joyful. Susan had a talent for nurturing both fresh and artificial flowers, creating an environment of beauty and tranquility in her home. Yet it was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who were her greatest pride and joy. Susan invested her time, energy, and love into their lives, ensuring that they felt cherished every single day.
Generous, spirited, and loving-these words only begin to describe a woman whose impact was as profound as it was gentle. Susan's life was a continuous outpouring of affection and care, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the honor of experiencing her warmth and grace.
Susan's life will be celebrated in the memories of those she touched and in the acts of kindness she inspired. Her legacy is one of selfless love and the joy that comes from making others' lives a little brighter. As her family and friends reflect on her life, they will find comfort in knowing that Susan Alexander Stoker made the world a better place simply by being in it. She will be profoundly missed, yet her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those she has left behind.
Graveside services by Sullivan Funeral Home will be held Wednesday, August 7, at 10am at Smyrna Cemetery, 292 Smyrna Cutoff, Diana, Texas.
