Stephen Lane Life Story

Stephen Polk Lane, age 79, passed away in Marshall, Texas on November 20, 2023. Stephen was born in Center, Texas to James Bailey and Ruby Pearl (Primrose) Lane. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Martin Bailey Lane. Stephen is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 42 years, Donna Lynne (Neeley) Lane; his son, Stephen Michael Lane; his daughter, Stephanie Dyan Lane Smith and her husband Sean; his grand-children, Caroline Grace Smith and Connell Patrick Smith; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Lane, Eileen and Gary Haney and Wallace and Peggy Neeley; his cousins, Laurie and Johnny Romero and Heather Hammonds; many nieces, nephews, family members and friends who knew and loved him. Stephen proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War in which he received many medals including Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Good Conduct Medal, He was an award winning photographer, well known for his photos. He loved playing golf and spending time with people sharing his love of photography. He was a member of the Marshall Lions Club for 50 years serving in all capacities. He also maintained the time clocks for ETBU basketball and football games for over 50 years. He retired from Texas Employment Commission after 30 years and went to work part-time for Pete McCarty Oil Company. Stephen loved the Lord and was a devoted member of First Methodist Church and was directly responsible for creating and administering the sound system at First Methodist Church. Visitation for Stephen will be held at The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home on Friday, November 24, 2023 from 4pm-6pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 10:00am at First Methodist Church, Marshall, Texas with Rev. David Luckert officiating. Interment will be at The Tennessee Cemetery in Tenaha, Texas. Pallbearers will be Wayne McWhorter, Kenneth Carroll, John Bogue, Terry Weeks, Monte Bacon and Ben Craig. Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Berry, Johnny Ingram, Lance Horton, Kent Reeves, Bert West, Ray Delk and Jim Webb. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Methodist Church, Sound System Ministry or a charity of your choice.
