A Life Celebration Memorial Service for Cluiss "Slick" Petty, Age 88, of Longview, Texas will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at The Cammack Family Welch Chapel in Longview, Texas. Cluiss "Slick" Petty of Longview, Texas went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 23, 2024. He was born on June 26, 1935, to Kattie and Raymond Petty in Pike, Texas. He was one of ten children. Slick went into the army and then settled in Missouri. He married and had 4 children. He owned and operated a barber shop in Eureka, MO in the 1970's. He worked at Chrysler and then worked and retired from Shippers Car Line in Longview, Texas.
Slick had the personality and natural charisma to make friends no matter the situation and was known for his wit and humor. He could brighten anyone's day. He had a passion for whippet racing in his younger years and won many events with The American Whippet Association. He was an avid runner and has many metals and ribbons from his races. Slick lived 88 wonderful years and was very loved by family and friends.
He married the love of his life, Lynda Petty, on Nov 6, 1992. They loved to dance the two-step as often as possible. After retirement, they went on many traveling adventures across the United States. They also loved playing 42 at Green Street in Longview.
Slick was preceded in death by his parents, Kattie, and Raymond Petty. Brothers, Raymond, Jr., Les, Joe, Leland, and Harold Gray. Sisters, Ruby, Jennie, and Stella. Grandson, Jake Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Petty. Sister, Jannie Lamb. His children, George Petty, Joyce Hippe, Kelly Petty, Randy Petty, Terri (Tom) Hoover, and Levi (Deana) Jones. Grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) Bierman, Kelly (Eric) Weisinger, Kalan Petty, Allison Tesreau, Tori Petty, Cole Petty, Courtney (Justin) Hallonquist, Madie (Colton) Harvick, Luke Jones, Eli (Sarah) Hoover, and Gage Hoover. Eleven great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Lifelong friend Ben Mason of Benton, IL.
