Scott Toupin Life Story

Scott Andrew Toupin, 64 of Longview, Texas, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022. He was a beloved father, husband, retired Austin Firefighter, and considerate community member, Scott lived life to the fullest; everyone who knew Scott felt his big heart and giving nature. His loved ones will honor his legacy by continuing to serve others and giving back to the community.

He was born on March 18, 1958, at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio to parents, Virgil and Yvette Toupin. His family moved to Austin, Texas in 1964, and Scott graduated from Crockett High School in 1976. He then joined the Austin Fire Department in 1986. After 26-years of dedicated service, Scott retired in 2013. He was an esteemed member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 975, serving as Vice President, President, and Political Action Committee (PAC) Chairman. He was extremely proud of both his and his fellow firefighters’ efforts in raising more than a million dollars in donations to help replace a New York City fire truck lost on 9/11, and for the IAFF Local 975’s dedication in supporting both the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Austin.

Scott loved being a firefighter almost as much as he loved traveling with his family, RVing with his friends, and spending time with the love of his life, Mamie, in their little piece of paradise in Saint Croix.

Scott is survived by his wife, Mamie Toupin; stepson, Jason Dimitt; and daughter of his heart, Stevie Garza; sisters, Lynne Kincaid; Diana Harrell and husband, Terry; brother, Mark Toupin and wife, Wendy; and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Toupin. Scott was the “very best Papa in the whole world” to grandchildren, Wyatt Dimitt; Parker Dimitt; Joseph Duncan; Jordan Duncan; Jonah Duncan; Dylan Duncan; Rylie Duncan; and Trevor Camp, and was well-loved by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, godchildren, as well as friends, David and Carla Brinkley; Bob and Angela Kerridge; Mark and Debra Bewley; Robert and Ginger Brandon; David and Teresa George; and Jeff and Brittni Brockman. Scott is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Yvette Toupin; brother, Michael Toupin; niece, Jacqueline Sutton; father-in-law, Donovan Sandidge; and sister-in-law, Melissa McNeece.
