Samuel Ashley Life Story

Samuel Dale Ashley, known affectionately to all as Sam, left the stage of life with the same charisma and humor that he carried throughout his 72 years. Born on January 6, 1952, in the humble town of Newellton, Louisiana, Sam was a man whose laughter was contagious, and whose presence was as commanding as the heavy equipment he so masterfully operated. On July 10, 2024, in Marshall, Texas, Sam took his final bow, leaving behind a legacy of joy, adventure, and a family who adored him. Preceded in his journey by his parents, Dorvis and Sybil Ashley, his sister Debbie and brother-in-law John Dudley, Sam's memories will be cherished and kept alive by his loving sister Cindy McKenzie. His children, Dale Ashley and wife Tina, Shannon Freeman and son-in-law Web, Savanna Ashley, and Samantha Castle and son-in-law Connor, will continue to share his stories and embody his spirit. Sam's grandchildren, Cody, Lacy, and Karson, alongside his great-grandson Kye, will grow up knowing the legend of their grandpa's escapades. Sam's work life was as varied and exciting as his personal life. As a heavy equipment operator, he had a knack for making any machine bend to his will, much like he did with life's challenges. His time as a wrecker driver and repo man was filled with tales that could rival any action movie-except his stories were real, and usually ended with a hearty laugh rather than an explosion. Sam's colleagues knew that a day with him at the helm meant anything but ordinary. Away from the roar of engines, Sam was the life of any gathering. He was a master storyteller, weaving narratives of his life experiences that could make you laugh until you cried, and then laugh some more. His pastimes included riding motorcycles, where he was as fearless and free as the wind, and engaging in what he would call "not so safe fun" on ATVs-a hint of mischief always twinkling in his eye. Sam's life was one of boundless energy and joy. He was a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and laughed loudly. His absence will be felt by all who knew him, but the echo of his laughter will resonate forever. So let us not say goodbye to Samuel Dale Ashley, but rather, 'til we meet again. For a man like Sam doesn't truly leave us; he simply takes his show on the road to that great gig in the sky. Rest easy, Sam, and may your stories continue to fill the heavens with laughter.
