He was the sixth of eighteen children of Wallace and Maxine Shields. With a large family, they were definitely close in every sense of the word. Ronnie graduated from Huntington High School. While in high school, he and his brothers helped their dad with his carpentry business. He fell in love with the trade and spent the remainder of his working years perfecting his skills as a master carpenter and home builder.
He is survived by his five children, Amanda Vallery and husband, Chris; Rocky Shields and wife, Jessica; Tyler Shields, Tammy Bunn and Rhonda Cook; seven grandchildren, Ashton Vallery, Parker and Landree Shields, Bryson and Devon Stanfield, Justiss Pilgrim and Kinlee Cook; one great-granddaughter, Mavery Jaine Lynn Pilgrim; seven brothers, Larry, Ricky, Doug, Terry, Robert, Bobo, and Andy Shields; six sisters, Debbie Donald, Pam Bruce, Brenda Shields, Tina Shields, Patty Marshburn, and Sharon Garrison. Ronnie is also survived by many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Laughlin and Juanita Maxine Shields as well as his beloved twin brother, Donnie Shields; brothers, Skeeter and Charlie Shields; and sister, Janet Householder.
Due to current health concerns, there will be a private graveside service for his children. The service will be streamed on Facebook Live 10 AM. If you wish to watch the memorial please go to open Facebook and search Welch Funeral Home Livestream page or go to www.facebook.com/welchlivestream/
