Ronald Joe Hughes, known affectionately as Ronnie to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024, in Longview, Texas. Born on September 27, 1947, in Gladewater, Texas, Ronnie lived a life marked by joy, generosity, and creativity, touching the lives of all those around him with his humor and kindness.

He is preceded in death by his father, Weldon Ronald Hughes, mother, Yvetta June Hughes, and survived by his brothers, Paul and Terry Hughes, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins who will all miss him dearly. Each of them will carry forward the essence of Ronnie's spirit in their own lives. He grew up in a warm and loving family alongside his brothers. Ronnie's childhood in Texas set the stage for a lifetime of cherished memories and close-knit family ties that he continued to nurture throughout his life. The Hughes family will remember Ronnie as a pillar of strength, laughter, and love, as will the numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, and cousins who were fortunate to know him.

After graduating from Hill City High School in Hill City, Kansas, Ronnie dedicated himself to a career that showcased his skill and precision. He became a certified welder for Mobil Pipeline, a role that allowed him to contribute significantly to the industry with his expertise. Ronnie was not only a hardworking and respected professional but also proudly served his country as an Army veteran, a testament to his sense of duty and patriotism.

Ronnie's interests and hobbies reflected his zest for life and his creative spirit. He found joy in building and flying model airplanes, a pastime that combined his technical abilities with his imaginative mind. Fishing was another of his passions, offering him moments of tranquility and reflection amidst nature's beauty.

Those who knew Ronnie will remember him for his quick wit and his ability to bring laughter to any room he entered. His generous nature was evident in his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed, and his creativity shone through in every aspect of his life, from his hobbies to his problem-solving skills at work.

A Life Celebration Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at The Cammack Family Chapel of Welch Funeral Home in Longview, Texas.
