Ronald Davis Denney, Sr., a cherished patriarch, and esteemed member of the Marshall community, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at the age of 92, in the same town where his story began - Marshall, Texas. Born on October 13, 1932, Ronnie's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his country, and his many passions.
Ronald, known fondly as Ronnie to his friends and family, was a man whose life was built on the foundations of faith, service, and love. A devout Christian, he spent many years as a Lay Reader at The Trinity Episcopal Church, where his deep, resonant voice and heartfelt readings touched the souls of many. His commitment to his faith and his community was unwavering, and it was this same dedication that he brought to every aspect of his life.
A proud veteran, Ronnie served his country with honor and distinction during the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force. His sense of duty was a core part of his identity and shaped the man he would become. Following his military service, Ronnie returned to Marshall and became a beloved local businessman, owning and operating Denney's Cleaners. He took immense pride in his work, forming lasting relationships with his customers and providing a service that was both personal and professional.
His love story with his wife, Jacquelyn H. Denney, was one for the ages, with ballroom dancing being one of their favorite shared activities. Their graceful moves on the dance floor were a beautiful expression of their lifelong partnership. Sadly, Jacquelyn preceded him in death, as did their son, Ronald D. Denney, Jr. These losses were profound, but Ronnie carried their memories with honor and grace.
Ronnie's zest for life extended to his love of sports. He was an avid golfer and tennis player, enjoying not only the competition but also the camaraderie found on the greens and courts. His enthusiasm for ham radio and airplanes showcased his technical savvy and adventurous spirit. He relished in building and flying his own models, soaring high with the same freedom and joy he found in life.
Above all, he was a family man. He is survived by his loving daughter, Cheryl Denney; his adoring grandchildren, Chrystal Osborn, Jackie Colvin, Hartley King, Kristi George, and Everette Denney; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of Ronnie's legacy, his wisdom, and his unwavering support in their hearts.
Ronnie's life was one of impact and inspiration, leaving an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know him. His generosity of spirit, his dedication to his loved ones, and his service to his country and community will be forever remembered and celebrated. As he reunites with his beloved Jacquelyn and Ronald Jr., we take comfort in knowing that his story, though complete on this earth, continues in the memories of those he loved and the lives he touched. Ronald Davis Denney, Sr.'s journey was one of purpose, joy, and love - a life truly well-lived.
