Robin Wright Gorin of Longview, TX passed away on April 7, 2022. A rosary and Memorial Mass for Robin will be held beginning at 10:30 am Wednesday April 13 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a reception following.
Robin was born January 4, 1950 in Silver Spring, Maryland to Patricia and James Wright. Robin was the oldest of four children. Growing up she learned to ice skate and loved to ride horses and read science fiction.
After high school graduation, she made her way to California and the U.S. Virgin Islands. While working as a secretary at the Hess oil refinery in St. Croix, the plant engineers encouraged her to try something bigger. So she moved to Beaumont, Texas to study chemical engineering at Lamar University.
There she met her future husband, Cecil Gorin. They graduated together in 1977 and both took jobs with Texas Eastman in Longview, Texas. The two married in 1979, and Robin continued to work until the birth of their first child in 1981. After much deliberation Robin decided to become a full-time mother and homemaker and enjoyed that role until her death.
Robin was inquisitive and cheerful. She loved creative crafts ranging from sewing and embroidery to jewelry making. She also enjoyed gardening and playing bunko or bridge with several groups of friends. Robin was generous and giving. She was active in St. Mary’s parish for decades through Our Lady’s Guild, Catholic Daughters and the Bereavement Committee, among others.
Robin is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Cecil; daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Philip Boland of Oegstgeest, Netherlands; daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and Bryan Slonski of Glen Ellyn, IL; grandchildren Wesley and Adelaide Slonski; sister and brother-in-law Terry and Roger Glaspey of Fresno, CA; brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Sharon Wright of Berkeley, CA; and sister and brother-in-law Laurie and James Horen of Portland, OR.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be given to Heart’s Way Hospice.
