Robert Howard Wilkinson, known fondly by friends and family as Bob, passed away on December 27, 2025, in Jefferson, Texas. Born on May 18, 1938, in Baltimore, Maryland, Bob's life was defined by his unwavering spirit, dedication to his community, and the joy he found in life's varied adventures. Bob is survived by his wife, Bonnie Stansell-Wilkinson, his children, Cheryl Ann Wilkinson and Robert H. Wilkinson, Jr. He was nicknamed "Custer" by those who knew him well, a moniker that captured his bold and resilient character. He was preceded in death by his son, John Wilkinson, and his parents, Walter Grover and Charlotte Amelia Wilkinson, as well as numerous other family members who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. A man of faith, Bob was an active member of the River Crossing Cowboy Church, where he found solace and fellowship. His work ethic was commendable; he dedicated 30 years of his life to General Motors, served the community as a Deputy Sheriff in Marion County, Texas, and contributed to the safety of Brownsboro, Texas with the police department where he set up a catchy police trap...still being used years later. Bob's commitment to service continued as he worked as a Security Officer at Kilgore College and led as Chief of Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department. Bob's youthful endeavors included racing professionally for Norton Motorcycles, a testament to his adventurous spirit and love for speed. This passion for motorcycles remained with him throughout his life as he rode daily on one of his four awesome bikes. He also shared his life with a hybrid wolf and numerous rescue dogs, showcasing his affinity for animals and his generous heart. Bob's dedication to family was evident in his care for his mother and father-in-law in his home. He was a man of the land, raising horses and enjoying trail rides through the Piney Woods of East Texas. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own a restaurant in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he brought people together over good food and warm hospitality. A proud veteran, Bob served our country in the U.S. Navy, an experience that shaped much of his life and values. His patriotism continued as a long-standing member of the East Texas Patriot Guard and the American Legion Riders, where he found brotherhood and a shared love for country and community. Bob's eclectic interests ranged from working as a movie extra with Chuck Norris to an unexpected love for country music, a genre that spoke to his soul despite his urban roots. He lived a life full of stories, laughter, and an unyielding zest for new experiences. Robert Howard Wilkinson's life was a tapestry of service, love, and adventure. He leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide his family and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Bob's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of many. His journey through life was as unique and spirited as the man himself, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Memorial Service with military honors will be held at 10:00am on Friday, January 16, 2026 at The Cammack Family-Marshall Funeral Home with Pastor Larry "CC" Gower officiating. Inurnment will be held at 12:30pm following the service at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, LA.
