He passed October 31, 2021, in Longview, Texas. He was born in Vincennes, Indiana October 11, 1935. He graduated from Freelandville High School. Upon graduation, he attended Purdue University. In 1955, he joined the Army which as he said allowed a farm boy from Indiana to see the world. In the Army he was a member of the Army Security Agency (ASA) where he listened to and intercepted Morse Code. He was stationed in Germany, Japan and Vietnam. When he left the Army in 1962, he moved to Dallas, Texas and worked for Fina. He was transferred to the midwest and operated two service stations in Belton, Mo. In 1977, he moved to Longview, Texas and began his career as an auto mechanic. He worked in this profession until the age of 55 when he began his next chapter as a mill supply driver. He enjoyed this as he was able to travel all over East Texas. He retired at 65 and spent his time as an avid reader. He was a wealth of knowledge and loved to share it with others. He was always ready with random facts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Esther O'Haver Bement; also by brother, Bruce Bement and sisters, Lena Logsdon; Judy McCammon; and Jewel Bement.

Survivors include daughter, Kathy Bement of Henderson, Texas; brother, David Bement and wife, Paulette of Terre Haute, Indiana; and brother, Eldon Bement and wife, Twila of Vincennes, Indiana and sister in law Linda Bement; along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his bonus family, Tammy Brightwell; Charity, Matt and Aubrey Ellis; and McKenzie and Hunter Heim all of Henderson, Texas; along with long time special friend, Naomi McPeek.

Special thanks to his cardiologist, Dr Krishna Nayini M.D. and his fantastic nurse, Gina for the many years of excellent care; also to Joni West and her family for adopting him and loving him as one of their own.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
