Beloved mother, Rilla Mae Shepard Woodruff, affectionately known as Mawmaw Rilla passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024, in Marshall, Texas, after a brave battle with Covid Pneumonia. Born on June 1, 1932, in Ore City, Texas she grew to become a pillar of strength and love in her community. Rilla's early years in Ore City were the foundation of a life marked by resilience and determination. Her pursuit of education led her to earn her GED in Marshall, Texas. She was employed at Joe Weisman and Co., an Insurance Agency, and A.W. Dunn Transfer and Storage. A natural leader, Rilla shone brightly as the President of the American Business Women's Association, where she championed the advancement of women in business. Her community involvement extended to being an active member of the Marshall Elks Lodge where she was selected as the first Sweetheart of the Elks Lodge and a member of T&P Family Ties, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed generously to the lives of those around her. Rilla was a devoted member of Eastern Hills Church of Christ in Marshall, Texas. Rilla's personal life was rich with interests and hobbies that spoke of her zest for life and her nurturing spirit. Sewing, shopping, and sitting on her front porch visiting with neighbors were activities that brought her immense joy. She was often described as the biggest cheerleader for her children and grandchildren, a testament to her loving and supportive nature. Her laughter was a frequent companion while watching her favorite shows, "The Golden Girls" and "Wheel of Fortune," and her kitchen was renowned for the world-famous chicken and dumplings that brought comfort to many souls. Rilla's delight in flea markets, picking flowers and berries, and tending to her garden with Louis reflected her appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
