Richard Boyd Life Story

Richard "Dick" Boyd, was born on May 9, 1941, in Harleton, Texas to William Eugene Boyd and Katie Lou Steelman Boyd. He passed away on August 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 83.
A lifelong resident of Marshall, Texas, Dick graduated high school in 1959, and enlisted in the United States Navy. After his service he graduated from the University of Houston in 1969. Dick married the love of his life Karen Sue Kemper, on July 22, 1966.
Dick was a consummate professional in the business world and had several different business interests throughout his career, but the one he was most proud of was Dick Boyd's East Texas Ford Tractors. Dick retired from the world of sales in January of 2007, and became a full-time grandparent, the most important and cherished role of his career.
Dick was continually active in his life in Marshall. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church for many years and served on the vestry as senior warden on several occasions. He and Sue hosted the youth group (EYC) from the church for several years at their home and took them on various activities across the area. He served as President of the Trinity Day School board for two terms. Dick was an avid sportsman, playing golf and tennis and taking duck hunting trips with his buddies to Stuttgart, Arkansas or one of many blinds on Caddo Lake. He had a passion for travel and fine dining and he and Sue enjoyed many fabulous trips together.
A very thoughtful, honest and faithful man, Dick was very respected in the East Texas community for his giving spirit and his kindness. He would do anything to help a friend or anyone in need. Dick also had a love of dogs and cats and over his lifetime had numerous stories to tell about tricks that he trained the dogs to do, particularly Peppi.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene and Katie Lou Boyd; his brothers and their spouses, William (Junior) Boyd; Reagan and Johnnie Boyd; Jack and Betty Boyd and Joe and Betty Boyd; as well as his beloved in-laws, Dr. Thomas Kemper and Huberta Kemper; and his brothers in law, Tuck Kemper; Jerry Kemper and Marvin Kendrick, and sister-in-law, Sally Kemper.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Karen Sue Kemper Boyd; his son, Bruce and wife, Kristy; his daughter, Jill and husband, Kevin McDougald; his grandchildren, Carson Boyd; Logan McDougald; Blair Boyd and Emerson McDougald; his sister, Wanda Kendrick; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Kemper; Kelly Kemper; and Jimmy Pyle and Valerie Washington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
