Rebecca Deaton Life Story

A celebration of life and remembrance service will be held for Rebecca "Beckie" Grant Deaton on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel at The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall, with Rev. Jeremy Roberts, David Weaver, and Anthony Henderson officiating.
The family will host a visitation on Wednesday, June 26, from 5-7 p.m. at The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home. Interment will be at Harmony Hill Cemetery in Tatum, near Martin Creek Lake State Park.
Ms. Deaton passed away on Saturday evening, June 22, following a long and courageous battle with diabetes. Beckie was born on April 4, 1951, in Henderson, Texas. She was the daughter of Victor Frederick Grant and Molly Louise Grant. The Grant family moved to Marshall, Texas, in 1964, and Beckie graduated from Marshall High School in the Class of 1969.
A self-starting, independent lady her entire life, Beckie spent most of her adult life as a self-employed entrepreneur. She oversaw the cleaning of over 1,000 apartments in Fort Worth, Texas, for three years from 1984-1987 and ran her own cleaning service in Hudson, Fla., from 1987-1991. While in Florida, Beckie worked during cleanup operations from Hurricane Andrew in Miami, Fla., from 1991-1993. Back home in East Texas, she founded and managed Busy B Auction in Tatum from 1993-2009, and started and managed Beckie's Brown Bags in 2011 until her death.
Beckie was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Marshall, working in the church's Quilting Ministry and also volunteering time at the Marshall Food Pantry. She was never shy about sharing her faith and telling the story of how Jesus had changed her life, including the last few weeks in the hospital with those caring for her. She loved working with others, attending her church and being with her church family, collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia, and spending time with her grandson, Grant Henderson.
Beckie was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 13 and never backed down from the disease the rest of her life. For 59 years she fought courageously, including the last five months of struggle until she was called home with her son, Anthony Henderson, by her side.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor Frederick Grant and Molly Louise Grant; and her husband, Robert Dale Deaton.
Left to cherish her memory as survivors are her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony Henderson and wife Donnis of Longview; three grandsons, Jacob Goss and wife Sue of Jackson, Miss.; Jonah Goss and wife Diana of San Diego, Calif.; and Christian Grant Henderson, of Longview; one great-grandchild, Isabel Goss of Jackson, Miss.; one brother and sister-in-law, Laverne and Glenda Grant of Jefferson; and a host of other beloved family and friends.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude and thankfulness to Dr. Bert Sharp and Dr. Oscar Chastain for their care of Beckie; at Christus Good Shepherd-Longview, the entire nursing floor on West Tower third floor and the nursing staff on East Tower third floor; all medical personnel that assisted on the surgical teams; Wound Care teams as well as IFD teams; and her church family and friends that have prayed for and cared for Beckie so deeply these last few years together.
Anthony Henderson would also like to personally acknowledge and thank Wanda Fillingim, Lawrence Fillingim, Gay Nicholas, Ernie Brents, and Donnie Powers, along with his TxDot family, who allowed him to be there for his mother until she was called home to be with Jesus.
