Peggy Ann Hawthorne passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, after a brief fight with cancer. Born on December 10, 1942, in Mansfield, Louisiana, Peggy's journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit and the profound impact she had on those around her. While she spent the majority of her adult life in Marshall, Texas, her final days were spent in Arlington, Texas, surrounded by the warmth of memories and the love of her family. Peggy was a lifelong learner, earning her Bachelor of Social Work from East Texas Baptist University and a Master of Social Work from Louisiana State University. Her education fueled her passion for helping others, leading to a fulfilling career in social work. Peggy dedicated her life to serving children and families, holding significant positions at Buckner Children's Home in Dallas, Brown Schools in San Marcos, and various other facilities in the Marshall and Northeast Texas areas. Her colleagues and those she served will remember her as an intelligent, interesting, and spirited individual who brought light and hope to every room she entered. Peggy's interests were as rich and diverse as her character. She had a passion for travel, exploring the world with an open heart and an insatiable curiosity. A lover of romance novels, she found joy and comfort in the pages of countless books, each story offering her a new adventure. Above all, Peggy cherished the time she spent with friends and family, creating memories that would become treasured legacies. Peggy is survived by her beloved first cousins, Mattie Grace Carter and Janis Hollabaugh, who, along with other family members and friends, will remember her for her compassion, her warmth, and her unwavering kindness. They will continue to honor her legacy by embodying the values she held dear and by keeping her spirit alive in their hearts. Peggy's departure leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and service. Her life was a testament to the power of human connection and the difference one person can make in the lives of many. As we say goodbye to Peggy Ann Hawthorne, we celebrate a life well-lived and full of purpose. She will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will continue to inspire and guide us. Her spirit, now free from the confines of this world, will forever be a guiding star for those she loved. A memorial service for Peggy Ann Hawthorne will be held at 9 am, Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Ramah Baptist Church in Tenaha, Texas. She will be buried alongside her parents, Tip and WR Hawthorne at a later date.
