Paul Gadt Life Story

Paul Mason Gadt age 65 of Longview, TX passed away peacefully on Friday August 16th in his hospital bed following his short battle with cancer. His wife Connie was by his side.
Paul was born November 7th, 1958, the second of two sons of Don and Norma Gadt of Higginsville, Missouri. He attended Lafayette Co. C-1 High School where he excelled in athletics. He was a two-time Missouri state wrestling Champion in two weight classes and in football he received 1st team all-conference, 1st team all-district and 1st team all-state honors in 2 positions as defensive middle linebacker and offensive fullback. He was also selected as a two-sport (wrestling and football) Missouri State High school All-American in his senior year in 1977. He was inducted into the Lafayette Co. C-1 Hall of Fame for the class of 1977.

After High school graduation he attended the University of Missouri where he was a walk-on athlete for the football team, eventually winning a scholarship as starting deep-snap center for four years. He then became a graduate assistant football coach for one season. He studied business and graduated in 1982.

After college he relocated to Longview, TX to pursue various employment opportunities. He was hired as a regional Manager for Stoudt Distributing Company where he met and eventually married Connie Lynn Campbell, his wife of 34 years. He married Connie on April 28th, 1990 and in 1992 they had the love of their lives, their daughter Carmen Leann.

After working for Stoudt Distributing Company, Paul owned and operated a furniture and appliance store in Jefferson, TX and would eventually work as Operations Manager for an oil field service company, Texas Flood, for the last 17 years until his passing.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and golfing with his older brother Brad and many other long time buddies. He and Connie spent most of their free time as a family traveling to attend and support their daughter Carmen's numerous softball and volleyball activities. He was also an ardent fan of Mizzou football.

Even though Paul had a physically intimidating presence, everyone knew him as a very kind and gentle man. He was a loving and caring husband and father, son and brother, and a provider and protector for his family. He was fiercely loyal and dedicated to his family and friends. He loved telling funny stories, listening to Motown oldies and in general being the life of the party. He was always available to help others whether it was assisting in miscellaneous home repairs/projects, helping to move, providing a ride to and from a doctor appointment or a vehicle breakdown. He loved to cook and smoke meats and was well known for his deliciously tender ribs and briskets. He lived a good and beautiful life full of love and joy and will be missed terribly.

He was preceded in death by his father Donald Gadt, and his mother-in-law Georgette Campbell both of Longview TX.

He is survived by his wife Connie, daughter Carmen, his mother Norma, his older brother Brad, his father-in-law Jim Campbell, and his niece Deanna Hodge (husband Forrest) all of Longview, TX; Also surviving are two sisters-in-law ...Katie Campbell of Houston, TX and Jennie Thompson (husband Dale) of Quitman, TX and one brother-in-law John Campbell (wife Brooke) of Pearland, TX ...as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
