Nancy Irick Life Story

On Thursday, April 6, 2023, Nancy Cochran Irick made her way to Heaven to reunite with the love of her life, Terry Irick. She was born Nancy Lou Cochran, the daughter of William Theo and Mary Lou Cochran on January 10, 1939 in Henderson, Texas. She grew up in Henderson, Texas and attended Henderson Schools all of her life. She was a twirler for the Henderson High School Band. After high school, she attended North Texas and then, Kilgore College where she was a member of the World Famous, Kilgore College Rangerettes. She married Terry Irick on September 5, 1959. Together they raised three children in Longview, Texas. She worked at Henderson Federal Savings while putting Terry through school at Stephen F. Austin. They eventually moved to Longview where they raised their three children. She worked for the City of Longview Water Department for a number of years. Later, they moved to Lancaster, Texas. She worked for the City of DeSoto Water Department as the department manager for many years before retirement.
Nancy was the epitome of a mother and family matriarch. She raised her children to be strong, intelligent leaders, as well as, teaching them to serve the Lord and their community, as she and Terry did. She was involved, over the years, in numerous acts of service, such as: PTO, room mother, team mother, Sunday School teacher, VBS, Meals on Wheels, East Texas Food Bank, Prayer Shawl Ministry, and many other ministries through her church. She lived to serve others.
She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved nothing better than to have everyone together. She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren for her attendance at numerous sports and school events. She also honored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by the gift of her beautiful afghans, Christmas stockings and blankets that she so lovingly made for them. She always put her family first. She never put her needs above those of her husband and children. She loved her family and they loved her so very much. Her selflessness will never be forgotten by those that knew her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Terry Irick and her parents, William Theo and Mary Lou Cochran. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Carolyn Cochran. Her children and their spouses: Bruce and Beverly Irick, DeAnne and Tommy Nicholson and Brad and Karen Irick. Her grandchildren and their spouses: TJ and Amanda Nicholson, Bennett and Kayla Irick, Mary Amanda and Casey Coats, Brandon Irick, Ashley Irick, Mason Nicholson and Christopher Irick. Great grandchildren: Jace Nicholson, Adley Nicholson, Brinley Irick, Crew Nicholson, Braxton Irick, Cooper Coats and Brooks Irick. And a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Greggton United Methodist Church, 1101 Pine Tree Rd., Longview, TX.
