Monika Magdalena Whatley

Monika Magdalene Whatley, née Graichen, passed away on July 28, 2024, in Longview, Texas, at the age of 80. Born on August 18, 1943, in Hannover, Germany, Monika moved to the United States in 1965, and lived in Las Vegas, Nevada until 1989.

Monika was a dedicated and hardworking individual, known for her independent spirit and love for dogs. She spent many years as a pro shop assistant at Black Mountain Golf and Country Club in Henderson, Nevada and later as a sales associate for Polo at Dillard's Department Store in Longview, Texas where she was recognized with several Pace Setter Awards.

Monika was the beloved wife of the late Robert "Dit" Whatley and was preceded in death by her parents, Waltraud and Jack Appleyard. She leaves behind a loving family, including her son Erik and his wife Danielle, her granddaughter Ashley, and great-granddaughters Ava and Olivia.

A Life Celebration for Monika will be held at Welch Funeral Home on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Live streaming will also be available at that time.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Summer Meadows and PrimeCare Hospice; where she was given compassion and care to the very end.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Monika's memory can be made to Partnership for Pets(or placed in an envelope during the funeral) honoring her love for animals. Monika's life was marked by her resilience, kindness, and the deep bonds she formed with those around her. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
