Mike Spencer, 66, of White Oak, Texas died peacefully surrounded by his family on August 19th, 2021 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler Texas. He was born June 9th 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Ralph and Lou Ellen Spencer.
Mike Graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1973, and continued his education at Southern Methodist Universities Southwestern graduate school of banking. Mike married his high school sweetheart Debi Nichols in 1974, they would of celebrated their 47th anniversary this October. Mike was very community minded, he served multiple terms as a city councilman in Flower Mound Texas, and was currently serving on the planning and zoning committee in White Oak, Texas.
Never one to rest on past achievments, Mike was the founder and owner of Heartland Park and Recreation, and worked with the communities large and small all over Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas designing and building parks and other outdoor spaces. Mike was a life long cattle rancher and expert horseman. He also enjoyed bee keeping, raising chickens, herding turkeys, produce gardening, and building anything and everything he could on his ranch. Mike had a deep love for his family and friends, he loved visiting and telling stories and never missed the opportunity to sit in the shade and visit. Mike was a strong man of faith and a member of Pine Tree Church of Christ in Longview, Texas.
Mike was preceded in passing by his parents, Ralph and Lou Ellen Spencer.
He is survived his wife, Debi; daughter Stefanie Smith of White Oak, Texas her husband Jeb; his son, Sean Spencer of White Oak, Texas and his wife Kristi; as well as grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Audrey Smith, Mac Smith, Haley Spencer, Avery Spencer, and Luke Spencer. He is also survived by his brother Clark Spencer of White Oak, Texas and his sister Susanne Hill of Oklahoma and four nephews and one niece.
A Life Celebration funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 24th, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Pine Tree Church of Christ in Longview, Texas and will be officiated by Jodi Garner and John Richard Spencer. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Simpsonville Cemetery in Upshur County Texas.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family request with gratitude that memorials be made in Mike's name to Pine Tree Church of Christ.
