Melvin Jack (Houser) Wood

Melvin "Melba" Jack Wood, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2025 in Marshall, Texas. Born on June 23, 1932, in Lamar, Kansas, her life was characterized by her spirited approach to each day.

A matriarch in the truest sense, she was a woman of great strength and resilience. Melba had a passion for keeping a pristine home, and she took great pride in her ability to do so. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as relaxing and spending time with her loved ones. Those moments with family were often filled with her sharing memories and stories of the past, and those moments will be treasured.

She was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Genell Houser; her beloved husband, Jack Wood Sr; her brother Keith Houser that she adored; and her cherished daughter Hope Wood Hughes. Her legacy continues through her children Bunie Shockley, Jack Wood Jr, Sandra Montgomery and Brad Wood.

Melba was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren Jennifer Clark, Jack Wood III, Roger Hughes, Misty Hughes, Jackie Moseley, Melva Wood and Josie Wood, as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren. They will carry a piece of her spirit, and her teachings will live on through the generations.

Melba's life will be celebrated in a private ceremony with family. We will celebrate a life well-lived and a woman well-loved. She will be dearly missed.
