Melviena Muse Life Story

We celebrate the life and cherish the memories of Melviena Eloise Newby Muse, affectionately known as Memaw, who passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024, in Marshall, Texas. Born on October 8, 1944, in Bristol, Tennessee, Melviena was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. The daughter of the late Melvin and Wilmeth Newby, Melviena grew up in a home filled with warmth and kindness, values she carried throughout her life. Her sister, Mary Johnston, and husband Bruce shared many fond memories that will be treasured forever. Melviena's legacy of love is carried on by her devoted daughter, Laurie Morehead and husband Mike, and her loving son, Morgan Muse and wife Tanna. Her grandchildren, Larami Morehead and wife Taytum, Kevin Muse and wife Kristen, and Kennedy Muse, were the apples of her eye, and she cherished every moment spent with them. The joy of her life extended to her great-grandchildren, Marleigh Muse, Hendrix Morehead, Tinley Morehead, and Grayson Malone, who brought her immeasurable happiness. Melviena's educational journey began at Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN and continued at East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, TX. Her career as a hairdresser alongside Nell Person allowed her to touch the lives of many. Her love for children shone brightly through her years of childcare at Little Angels in Bristol and First Methodist Day School in Marshall. A woman of deep faith, Melviena's life was a testament to her love for Jesus. She found great comfort and inspiration in watching her favorite ministers, David Jeremiah and Charles Stanley, and her faith was evident in her every action and word. Melviena's musical tastes were as vibrant as her personality, with a love for Elvis Presley and Motown music that kept her spirit dancing. She was also a talented pianist, often filling her home with melodies and at one time, an organist at Woodlawn Baptist Church. An avid sports fan, Melviena enjoyed the thrills of NASCAR, college football, and college baseball, cheering on her favorite teams with enthusiasm. Her competitive spirit was equally matched by her love for TV game shows, where she would often outwit the contestants from the comfort of her living room. Melviena will be remembered as a loving, funny, and faith-filled woman, whose laughter and kindness left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered. Her ability to find joy in the simplest things, from a beautiful hymn to a lively family dinner, was a gift to all who experienced it. As we bid farewell to our Memaw, we take solace in knowing that her legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the memories of her family and friends. Her light will never dim in the hearts of those who loved her. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
