Brethren, sisters, and cherished friends, today we gather not in sorrow, but in celebration of the life of our beloved Melba Jane (Andrews) Burns, who was called home to be with the Lord on the 24th of October, 2024. Born on the 15th of December, 1938, in the humble town of Mt. Vernon, Texas, Melba Jane was a beacon of love and joy to all who knew her. It was in Longview, Texas, that she spent her final moments, surrounded by the warmth of family and the grace of God. Melba Jane was a woman whose spirit shone brightly throughout her 85 years on God's green Earth. She was the proud matriarch of a family that stands as a testament to her boundless love and unwavering devotion. Her legacy is carried on by her cherished daughter, Virginia Lynn Reppond; her loving sons, Mark Wayne Landers and his wife, Leann, and Ryan Ray Landers and his wife, Kimie. Melba Jane's joy was multiplied through her grandchildren, Jennifer House, Chris Calhoun, Brian Calhoun, Leisa Noe, Jessica Lynn Reppond, Kindra Rana Rogers, Alisha Pearl Reppond, William Michael Landers, and Sean Mark Landers. Her zest for life further blossomed in her sixteen great-grandchildren, who will continue to walk in the light of her example. Though she now joins her parents, Johnnie Augustus and Pearl Sparks Andrews, her son, Travis Lee Landers, and her sister, Joann Andrews, in the eternal embrace of our Savior, Melba Jane's spirit remains a guiding star for us all. A graduate of Kilgore High School and an attendee of Kilgore College, Melba Jane was a woman of intelligence and charisma. She dedicated over two decades to serving others through her work at Tommy Waggoner State Farm Insurance, where her diligence and compassion touched the lives of many. Melba Jane's faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her existence. She served with grace and humility at Wesley United Methodist Church, where for many years she was not only a faithful member but a beacon of leadership. As President of Methodist Women and a District Officer for the United Methodist Church, her faith-inspired service impacted countless souls and brought comfort and guidance to those in need. Her hands, ever skilled in the art of embroidery, were a symbol of her love for creating warmth and comfort. Yet, it was her family that was her true passion, her heart's greatest masterpiece. Melba Jane was the embodiment of the Proverbs 31 woman-her children call her blessed and her actions spoke of her unwavering love and commitment to her family. As we bid farewell to Melba Jane, let us not be heavy of heart, for she has found her peace in the Lord's heavenly abode. It is with joy we remember how she lived-a life rich in love, faith, and kindness. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. In the words of the Apostle Paul, Melba Jane fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith. Now, there is in store for her the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to her on that day-and not only to her, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Let us carry Melba Jane's memory in our hearts and live as she did-with love unbounded and faith unwavering. Until we meet again, may she rest in the glorious peace of our Father's kingdom. Amen. A celebration of Melba Jane's life will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 10:00am with Rev. Thad Carter officiating. Visitation will be held immediately following the service.
