Mary Dean Morriss Life Story
Mary Dean Morriss passed away on October 24, 2024, in Garland, Texas at 93 years of age.

Mary was born on December 15, 1930, to Byron Howard and Blanche Keene Baldwin in Plainview, Texas. She was the oldest of seven children. Her father was a pastor, schoolteacher, coach, and school principal. She said that her parents were her role models in life. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Ben Dean, on June 17, 1949.

Ben and Mary had three children (Jimmy Wayne, Bobby Howard, and Debra Ann). They were very active as a family in church and in serving the Lord. Ben had a successful career in the lumber business.

Ben and Mary were very generous in supporting churches and Christian institutions. They gave a major gift for the Dean Healthplex at East Texas Baptist University and the Baldwin Multipurpose Center at Northlake Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. Ben passed away on January 25, 1995, after 45 years of marriage.

On February 1, 1997, Mary married a retired pastor, Dr. L. L. Morriss. They were married for 12 years before he died in 2009. He was a blessing to Mary and to all the family.

In 2024, Mary wrote a book about her life with the help of her granddaughter Stephanie McDonald. The title is Loving God, Loving Others, Loving Life. As a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Mary influenced many lives wherever she lived. Her love for her family and others was exceptional. She lived a life full of love, joy, and thankfulness.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Byron Howard and Blanche Baldwin, her husbands, Ben Dean and L.L. Morriss, her granddaughter, Melody Ellen Dean, and her brother, Eugene Baldwin.

Mary is survived by her three children and their spouses: Jim and Cathy Dean of Sherman, Texas; Bob and Ellen Dean of Sachse, Texas; and Debra and Jerry Summers of Maryville, Tennessee. She is survived by six grandchildren: Jennifer Dean, Brent Dean, Brian Dean, Stephanie McDonald, Curtis Summers, and Julie Jones and by seven great-grandchildren: Abbey Summers, Laura Summers, Jasper Dean, Everett Jones, Emerson Jones, Lillian Jones, and Roman.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the scholarship funds at East Texas Baptist University and Dallas Baptist University.
