Mary Jane McElroy passed from this world into God's hands on May 10, 2024 at the age of 94. Born in Marshall, Texas on February 28, 1930, Mary Jane graduated from Marshall High School and attended North Texas State College, before returning to Marshall where she met and married her husband, Benjamin Cameron McElroy, III. Mary Jane and Cameron began married life in Marshall, before moving to Regina, Saskatchewan, followed by Dallas, Texas and finally returning to Marshall in 1964, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. In Marshall, Mary Jane taught pre-school at Trinity Episcopal Day School for several years, followed by a career at Panola-Harrison Electric Co-op where she worked until she retired in 1992. As part of the Marshall community, Mary Jane was a founding member of the Marshall Symphony League, served as a Red Cross Volunteer, was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a leader of the Junior Garden Club. Mary Jane was a devout Christian and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church for over 50 years. During her time at Trinity, Mary Jane was a dedicated member of Altar Guild, serving as Directress for several years. She was also a founding member of Trinity's Prayer Shawl Ministry, which was very dear to her heart and where she knitted countless shawls for those in need of comfort. Mary Jane was an accomplished seamstress, wonderful cook, expert gardener, avid reader and crossword devotee. But above all, Mary Jane cherished her family and wanted most to be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, James F. Davis, Jr. and Jimmie Johnson Davis; her husband of 67 years, Cameron McElroy and her brother, James F. Davis, III. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Mark Cotton of San Antonio, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Kathleen McElroy of Allen, Texas; one grandson, Chris Cotton of Nacogdoches, Texas; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Cotton and husband Marco Correia of Los Angeles, California and Emma McElroy of Plano, Texas; two great-grandsons, Ryder Correia and Jones Correia, her sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Ray Lamonica of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church, followed by graveside services at Greenwood Cemetery. After the services, family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary Jane's life at a reception from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Ginocchio Restaurant. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Marshall Manor and Marshall Hospice for their support and care. A special thank you goes to her personal caregivers for the love and tender care given to Mary Jane over the past few years: Gloria Slade, Mattie Dillard, Shirley Campbell, Evelyn Manning, June Newman and Frances Burford.
