Mrs. Mary Alice Jackson age 89 of Tatum, Texas went to be with the Lord on December 12, 2023, in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 18, 1934, in Hamburg, Arkansas, to the late William Seaborn and Noba Lee Howie.
After growing up in Hamburg, Mary Alice moved to Gladewater where she met her late husband, James Roland (Jim) Jackson. They were married on December 29, 1960. Mary was a homemaker who loved to work in her vegetable and flower gardens, and always enjoyed spending time and preparing meals for her family. For Sunday dinner, one could always expect a pot roast, potatoes, and carrots after returning from Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where Mrs. Jackson was a member for more than fifty years.
She also loved watching football and baseball and was always a Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Tatum Eagles fan during good times and bad.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by sons, John William Jackson and wife, Angela, of Tatum; James (Jimmy) Donald Jackson and wife, Robin, of Clifton; daughters, Loretta Louise Bass and husband, Mike, of Gilmer; Mildred Jean Peterson, of Henderson; grandchildren, Joshua Bass and wife, Aubrey; Christopher Bass and wife, Blair; Jessica Guimonds and husband, Mark; Clayton Peterson and wife, Sarah; Andrew Peterson and wife, Charlye; Nadia Jackson; Shaina Jackson; Raina Jackson; Austin Jackson; Katelyn Jackson Sempebwa and husband, Adam; and Kallie Jackson; 17 Great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Mitchell; cousin, Alice Faye Deaton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Roland Jackson; parents, William and Noba Lee Howie; and sisters, Sarah Howie and Lula Brooks.
A funeral service for Mary Alice Jackson, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, December 18th, 2023 in The Chapel of Welch Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Lane officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation one hour prior to the start of the service. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM at Smyrna Cemetery in Atlanta, Texas.
