Martha "Marti" Ann Parten, known for her unwavering wit and generous spirit, took her final curtain call on February 12, 2024, after a long illness which she faced as she did all of life's challenges-with courage, a twinkle in her eye and a joke on her lips. She was born in the family home of Locust Grove near Jonesville, Texas, on February 22, 1942. Marti was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her. Her sparkling blue eyes and vivacious spirit were her trademarks, and those who had the pleasure of her company will deeply feel her absence.
Marti grew up in a bustling household with her late parents, Edith Mae and Will Whaley Coleman. She was a beloved sister to Ethelyn "Sister" Eads, Mary Ross Thrasher, Helen Earl "EE" Coleman, Carolyn Darby, and brother, Bill Coleman. Her radiant personality was only matched by the love she had for her daughter, Jennifer Russell, who was the pride and joy of her life. Her love was also felt by her son-in-law William Russell and longtime companion, Tony Karwoski of Georgetown, TX, along with his daughter Beth Karwoski, all of whom shared in the tapestry of her life.
Professionally, Marti carved out a successful career in new home sales with David Weekley Homes. Her knack for connecting with people and her genuine interest in their lives made her a natural in the field. Marti's colleagues will remember her as not only a dedicated professional but also as a friend who could always be counted on for a hearty laugh or a sympathetic ear.
Marti's interests and passions were as varied as they were joyful. She had a profound love for animals, especially her childhood horse Bird and all her pet cats, which brought her immeasurable happiness throughout her life. Dining out with friends, planning weekend getaways, and ensuring her hair was always perfectly styled were some of the simple pleasures that she cherished. Marti was also an avid fan of the classic films "The Wizard of Oz" and "Gone with the Wind," stories of resilience and determination that resonated with her deeply.
Those who knew Marti would describe her as friendly, funny, and thoughtful. Her ability to light up a room with her humor and to extend kindness to everyone she met was a gift that made her truly special. Her thoughtfulness was a comfort to many, and her ability to make others laugh was one of her most endearing qualities.
Marti's life was a testament to the impact one person can have on the people around them. While she will be profoundly missed, her legacy of laughter, kindness, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
