Marlene Smith

Marlene Carol Cochran Smith age 87, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, in Marshall, Texas. She was born on August 23, 1937 in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

After graduating from Tarleton State University, Marlene embarked on a career in teaching. Marlene was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Smith. She had three children, the late Kenneth Turley, and daughters Dr. Valarie Allman (Jimmy) and Denise Turley, also her granddaughter Amanda Vanderburg (Trey) and Rachel Whitson and grandsons James Turley, and the late Michael Whitson. She was also a great-grandmother, to ten great-granddaughters, one great-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter.

She loved family gatherings and was lovingly referred to as Mar by family as well as friends. Her spirit, a blend of compassion, empathy and warmth, will forever be remembered by her family and friends, and the many lives she touched in her 87 years.

There will be no formal service, just a small celebration of life with close family.
