Madelyn Alford Life Story

Madelyn Rayoma Alford, resident of White Oak, TX died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones on January 20, 2022 at age 98. Madelyn was a Butcher at the SafeWay Meat Market for 20 years before working as Head Dietician for White Oak ISD and Cook at White Oak Elementary School for 20 years before retiring.

Madelyn married her sweetheart Russell Alford in 1940 and soon after graduated in 1941 from White Oak High School. After graduating high school, she worked while living life with her sweetheart; traveling and raising their three children.

Alford was a member of The American Legion, White Oak Band Boosters, and the Parent Teacher Association for White Oak. She was also the Spearhead for creating the Union for the local SafeWay store in Longview, TX. Madelyn also took part in the Angels Wings, where she would feed and take care of senior citizens in Nursing Homes in Grosebeck, TX. Madelyn leaves behind her a life of dedicated service and accomplishments for her community and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Alford of White Oak, Texas in 1999, son David Alford, parents Celeste Appel Powers and James Powers, brothers James Joseph Powers Jr. and John Henry Powers, and sisters Louise Powers Hughes and Fern Celeste Latino.
She is survived by her daughter Cathy and husband Jerry Holland, her full time caregiver for the last six years of her life, of White Oak, TX, son Ray and wife Kaye Alford of Garland, TX, and her niece, Celeste and husband Bob Coffee of Grosebeck, TX; her grandchildren Tammy and husband Steve Denfeld of White Oak, TX, Becky Malone of Longview, TX, Jody and husband Matt Hamilton of Azle, TX, and Susan and husband Jason Waltors of Ft. Worth, TX, Cameron and wife Sarah Alford of Sulpher Springs, TX, and Hayden and wife Dee Dee Alford of McKinney, TX; her 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 from 5:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M. at The Cammack Family Welch Funeral Home in Longview, Texas

A Life Celebration for Madelyn will be held at 2:00 P.M. at The Cammack Family Welch Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 25, 2022
