Lynn Owens Life Story

   Lynn Emelia passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in Marshall, Texas. She was born on August 5, 1947 in Redondo Beach, California. She was the daughter of Robert Leslie DeMorest and LaVerne Isabelle (Whiting). She grew up in and around the Los Angeles area, graduating from David Star Jordan High School in 1965. After high school, she attended Cal State Long Beach, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in History in 1969. She then taught Pre-K various places in the Los Angeles Area, Montana and East Texas.

   On October 10, 1970, she was united in marriage to John Michael Owens in Long Beach, California. They spent 53 years together living in various places from the Los Angeles area to Montana, back to the Los Angeles area, the East Texas city of Longview, South Texas cities of Alice and Laredo, Southeastern New Mexico cities of Artesia and Roswell, then to San Angelo, Texas and finally back to Marshall, Texas.

   In the fall of 1991, she became a Certified Pharmacy Technician, remaining in the field until she retired in September 2013. In 2014, She, her husband and son, started an Oversized Load Pilot Car business while in Roswell, where she was the CEO. They closed the business in February 2018.

   From 1987 until December 1994, she was involved in the Boy Scouts of America programs as a den leader for her son's Cub Scout Webelos den, and various other Adult Volunteer positions in the Boy Scout troops her son was involved in as well as district level positions for the Arrowhead/Cherokee Trace districts of the East Texas Area Council. During the same time frame, she also assisted her daughter, Kim, in her Girl Scout Troop with the Tejas Girl Scout Council.

   She had hobbies of working on tracing her family heritage, cross stitching, collecting various types of train engines and black bears and trying her hand at Sudoku.

   Lynn was a 2-time SURVIVOR of Breast Cancer, and an avid animal lover.

   She is survived by her husband John of Marshall, her daughter Kimberly and son-in-law Matt Page of Tyler and her son David of Marshall. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Judith Carol in Florida; a sister, Dian and her husband Mac Lyons of Snohomish, Washington, as well as many nieces and nephews across the country.

   She was preceded in death by her father, Robert, in February 2010 in Montana and her mother LaVerne in March 1970 in California.

   A private family service will be held at a later date.
