Lisa Godfrey Life Story

Lisa Burd Godfrey, of Longview, who was known for her unwavering love and generous spirit, went to be with Jesus on March 4, 2024. She was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her.

Lisa was born on February 18, 1955 in Henderson, TX, and was the oldest of three children. Lisa loved to sing and was an active choir member of Longview High School where she graduated in 1973.

Professionally, Lisa started her career at Eastman Chemical Company. During her journey with Eastman, she worked in Communications and Public Affairs and was a loan officer and teller. Lisa found joy in all her interactions with each member, and she showed love to everyone she encountered. She retired from Eastman Credit Union after 40 years. Her colleagues will remember her as a dedicated professional, but also as a friend who always went out of her way to help and to be a listening ear.

Lisa's interests and passions were as varied as they were joyful. She had a profound love for Jesus, baking, dining out with her Girl's Night Out (GNO as they called it) friends, planning the next beach trip, and ensuring her hair was as perfectly styled as it could be. Lisa loved cheering on the Texas Rangers Baseball team and spending Friday nights with her family rooting on the Longview Lobo Football team. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Longview where she sang in the choir and played handbells. Her favorite films were The Wizard of Oz and The Little Mermaid, stories of resilience and determination that resonated deeply with her.

Lisa had a gift for hospitality, and her ability to light up a room with her kindness was something that made her truly special. Her thoughtfulness and hand written notes were a comfort to many. While she will be profoundly missed, her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Christopher Godfrey of Longview; Mother, Margaret Halpin of Longview; Daughter, Amber, and her husband, Philip Wright of Hallsville; Stepson, Ronnie, and his wife, Sarah Godfrey of Longview; Sister, Shelia, and her husband Steve Leach of Fort Worth; Nephew, Garrison, and his wife Devon Leach of Aledo; and many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. "Lolly" to Ryleigh and Addison Godfrey and Great Aunt to Charlotte and Violet Leach.

Lisa is preceded in death by her brother, Philip Burd, and Stepdad, Robert Halpin.
