Lelia Sue Bateman Bright, known affectionately as Sue to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2024, at the age of 85 in Marshall, Texas, due to heart failure. Born on September 3, 1939, in Tyler, Texas, Sue was a loving wife and devoted partner of 59 years to her husband, Maurice Bright. Sue attended Quitman High School, where she laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication. After graduation, she joined the team at Southwest Airmotive in Dallas, Texas. She also enjoyed league bowling and earned many trophies. She was united in matrimony to Maurice Franklin Bright on October 15, 1965, and together they built a life filled with joy, challenges, and triumphs. Their love blossomed into a family, as they were blessed with three children: Thurman Bright, Sherry Hoppmann, and Mary Jean Bright. Sue was preceded in death by her beloved father, James McNatt Bateman, her mother, Elton Clementine Posey, and her brother, James Efton Bateman. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive by her loving family, including her husband, children, and her adored grandson, Ryan Keenan Wright, as well as her great-grandson, Keanu Wright. Throughout her life, Sue was an active and devoted member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, guiding her actions and her outlook on life. She held several church offices over the years, demonstrating her commitment to her faith community. Sue also participated in the United Methodist Women, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed significantly to the group's mission. Those who had the privilege of encountering Sue would describe her as a wise and nurturing presence. Her selfless attitude towards life encouraged others to act with kindness and generosity. Sue's faith-filled spirit was evident in her every action, and her legacy of love and devotion will continue to influence those she has left behind.
