Laura P. Mobley passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 13, with her daughters by her side. She is now 100% healed from her Chronic Lung Disease and rejoicing in heaven, therefore we rejoice too - although we will deeply miss her.
Laura was born on May 18, 1940, to Nell and Dunn P Phillips, in Longview, Texas. She graduated Longview High School and attended college in Denton. She lived and worked in Longview most of her life and had several very close friends with which she enjoyed camping and fishing. Early in life she was able to travel to many places and always had fun stories to tell. Some included extended time in Houston for work, to California with her lifelong friend Connis, to New Orleans in the jump-seat of a Rolls Royce holding a huge formal gown for Mardi Gras, and several trips to Mexico. Later in life she was perfectly content having her home at Lake Cherokee. Fishing was her favorite. She had her dogs and her boat, and lots of fishing gear - and couldn't be happier, until 2004 when her only grandson, Tag, came along. She sold her lake house and moved back into town to be closer to him. He stayed with her daily and they had the best time. She showed her love for everyone by cooking great meals - and when Tag was 3 or so, he even thought she should have a restaurant because "Mimi is a good cooker".
Laura grew up in First Baptist Church of Longview and was baptized. Several years ago, Laura truly enjoyed her church Trinity Baptist in Lakeport, and the friends she met and reconnected with there. Once she was home-bound, she watched Dr. David Jeremiah every time she had a chance.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Nell and Dunn P. Phillips, and her younger brother John Howard Phillips.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Ginny Howard and Lorna McAfee Alaniz and her husband Ed, and grandson Thomas "TAG" Garlough, her nephew Kelly McAfee and wife Sharon, as well as cousins and several very special friends.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, October 20th, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m in the Garden Court of Welch Funeral Home.
Laura loved the work that St. Jude does and donated regularly. If you would like to make a donation in her memory to them, in lieu of flowers, that would be appreciated.
