Larry Jones Life Story

Larry Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and joy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Larry was born to the late Eddie William Jones and Ruby Cochran. A proud graduate of Lubbock High School, class of 1958, Larry went on to showcase his leadership and athletic skills as the captain and linebacker for the Texas Tech football team, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree.

His professional journey began at Dunn and Bradstreet, but it was at Baxter, in the field of Medical Sales, where Larry made his mark. He excelled in his career, taking on roles with increasing responsibility and eventually serving as the Area Vice President for the Eastern Half of the U.S. His tenure at Baxter was not just marked by professional achievements but also by the lifelong friendships he forged and the global adventures he embarked on in recognition of his work.

Larry's heart belonged to Ruth Marie Arend, whom he married on March 14, 1970, at Saint John's Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX. Their 53-year marriage was a beautiful journey that saw them living across the South, from New Orleans to San Antonio, Arlington, Atlanta, and finally settling back in DFW. Together, they created unforgettable memories, traveling extensively through Europe, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. Larry and Ruth especially treasured their time in Rome, exploring ancient ruins and savoring exquisite cuisine, all the while enjoying the company of close friends.

An avid outdoorsman, Larry found peace and joy in nature. He was an expert fisherman, whether fly fishing in the Chama and Conejos Rivers, bay fishing along the Texas and Louisiana coast, or freshwater fishing in the creeks of Marshall, Lake of the Pines, and Toledo Bend Lake. Hunting, ranching, and sharing drinks with his lifelong friends Bob Hurst and Maurice Hanns were among his favorite pastimes.

In retirement, Larry and Ruth immersed themselves in ranch life in Hamilton County, where they pursued their love for hunting, bird watching, and discovering Native American artifacts. Their final years were spent in the comfort of their home in Colleyville, enjoying serene evenings, delectable dinners, and the joy of watching their grandchildren grow.

Larry's memory will be forever honored by his devoted wife, Ruth; his sons, Larry Jr. and wife Laura, Robert and wife Sayuri, Michael and wife Brandy, and Bryce and wife Michelle; his daughter, Laura Sommers; his grandchildren, James, Jennifer, Christina, Hayden, Ella, Chloe, and Luke; and his great-grandchildren, Liam and Cali. His sisters Ruby and Shirley, and his brother Randy, will also hold his memory dear.

Larry Jones lived a life rich with love, achievement, and adventure. His spirit of generosity, his unwavering support for his family, and his infectious zest for life will continue to inspire those he has left behind. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the indelible mark he has left on our hearts and the world. Larry's life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and the joy of a life well-lived.
