Kenneth Ray McMaster, known affectionately as Kenneth by those closest to him, lived a life rich with love, service, and an unwavering spirit of generosity. Born on August 6, 1927, in the humble town of Okolona, Arkansas, Kenneth embarked on a journey that would span nearly a century, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of crossing his path. He completed his earthly journey on October 2, 2024, in Longview, Texas, after a brief illness, surrounded by the warmth of family love and the memories of a life well-lived.
Kenneth's story is one of a true American hero, a Navy veteran who served his country with honor and dedication. His commitment to service did not end with his military career; it was a thread woven throughout the entirety of his life. After his time in the Navy, Kenneth transitioned to a career as a fireman, where he exemplified courage and selflessness, daily laying his life on the line for the safety of others. His entrepreneurial spirit later led him to establish a successful metal plating business, where his leadership skills and business acumen shone brightly.
At the core of Kenneth's life was his unwavering faith, which he expressed through his role as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Hallsville. He was a pillar of the community, always ready to extend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement. His involvement in church activities was not just a duty but a joy, as he cherished the fellowship and the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives around him.
Kenneth's zest for life was evident in his hobbies and interests. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and solace in the rhythmic dance of the line and the quiet anticipation of a catch. His love for the outdoors extended to meticulous yard work, where he took pride in cultivating beauty and order. A voracious reader, Kenneth found adventure and wisdom in the pages of books, continually expanding his understanding of the world. He also enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly competition of playing dominoes, especially the game of 42, which brought laughter and joy to many gatherings.
Family was the cornerstone of Kenneth's world. He was a loving husband to his beloved wife, Marjorie McMaster for 70 years, a guiding light to his son, Kirk McMaster, and his daughter, Michele Gregg. He delighted in his role as a grandfather to Haley Gregg-Tate, Taylor Gregg, Dilloin McMaster, Sean McMaster, and the late Miranda Gregg-Mayes. His great-grandson Mason Snow, brought him immeasurable joy, as he witnessed the legacy of his love continue to blossom.
Kenneth's life was a testament to the power of love, friendship, and generosity. These were not just words to describe him; they were the principles by which he lived. He approached each day with a heart full of love, ready to extend friendship to all, and with hands open to share generously. His presence was a source of comfort and strength to those around him, and his legacy is one that will continue to inspire and motivate for generations to come.
In a life that spanned 97 years, Kenneth Ray McMaster taught us that the measure of a man is not in the wealth he accumulates but in the richness of his relationships, the depth of his faith, and the breadth of his kindness. As we remember Kenneth, let us carry forward the light he shone in this world, committing ourselves to live with the same love, the same friendliness, and the same generosity that he embodied. Kenneth's life was a beacon of hope and a blueprint for meaningful living. As he now enters the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, let us honor his memory by becoming the best versions of ourselves, just as he strived to do every day of his remarkable life.
