Life Story
Karla Baughn Welch, 63, a loving wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home in Longview, Texas on August 12, 2023. She was born in Kilgore, Texas on February 13, 1960. Karla was raised at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Kilgore, and joined the First Baptist Church Longview after moving to Longview in 1991. She was a member of the Adult 3 Life Group Department.
A graduate of Kilgore High School in 1978, she furthered her education at Kilgore College where she played flute in both bands. After KC, Karla attended the University of North Texas. Moving back to Kilgore she worked at Mobley Inc. in Kilgore, the Longview Chamber of Commerce, the First Baptist Church Longview, Oak Forest Montessori School, The Crisman School, and LeTourneau University. Her sweet personality fostered many close friendships during her working years. Perhaps her favorite job during her working years was her "Pie Ministry" with Welch Funeral Home. The time she spent visiting with families reflected her generous spirit, as she found joy in serving others and sharing her culinary talents. Her pies were as sweet as her personality, and they will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting them.
Karla's interests included traveling with her family on car trips and spending quality time with friends and family.
Karla was a devoted family woman and cherished her relationships with her friends. She is survived by her beloved husband, Marc Welch of Longview; two sons, Dustin of San Antonio, and Baughn of Longview; special cousins, Nancy and Bill Holloman of Longview; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Sherrie Welch, Longview; Linda and Johnny Walker of Highland Village, Texas; and her mother-in-law, Susan Welch of Longview. Karla also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins, all of whom she adored; and her special friends, Sharon Lightfoot of Temple, Texas, Sarah Patteson of Tyler, and Susan and Larry Lowtharp of Longview.
A Life Celebration® funeral service for Karla Welch, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16th, 2023, in the Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church.
