Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Johnny Madlyn Maley Cale, age 92, passed away on October 29, 2023 in Longview, Texas surrounded by her family. She was born on December 8, 1930 in Port Arthur, Texas to Dave Madison and Ora Dea Montgomery. On February 24, 1951, she married Don Maley and together they celebrated 47 years of marriage before he passed away on March 4, 1998. She later married Charles Cale on August 2, 2002 and they were married 10 years before his death on August 23, 2012. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Jo Lynn Fleming; her brothers, Adrian Montgomery and wife, JoAnn and Albert Montgomery; her grandson, Greg Powers; her nephew, A. V. Montgomery and a special friend, Loretta Young. She is survived by her children, Pam Lindley and husband, Jim, Dea Ann Grigsby and husband, Brad, and two daughters who she helped raise and loved as her own, Sharon VanTroba and husband, Steve and Nancy Hudiburg; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Adriann Martin and husband, Lake, Don Fleming and wife, Mindy, Haley Lindley, Natalie Bloodworth and husband, Harry, Madison Wiggins and husband, Justin, Morgan Grigsby and fiance, Jeremy Thomas, Meagan Luna and husband, David, Traci Organ and husband, Bobby, Michelle Powers and Brandon Hudiburg. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Weston Fleming and Ashton Baylon, Gunnar Davis, Lindley Oney, Noah and Hank Bloodworth, Lane and Lynden Wiggins, Drake Williams, Baker Thomas, Shelby and Haley Organ, Granger Luna, Jonathan Baley and Michael Baley; special nephews, David Montgomery and special friends, Darlene Henderson, Joyce Neu, Susie Payne, Carol and Charles Pace. Madlyn is also survived by many other family members and friends who knew and loved her. She graduated from Port Arthur High School in 1950 and was a devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She worked as a telephone operator putting Don through college. When the family moved to Marshall in 1968, she became involved in the church and made many friends. She quickly became known as a wonderful seamstress and when the Mavettes changed their uniforms, she was chosen to sew the night uniforms as well as all the day uniforms. That year the line was 72 members strong. She would stay up until the early morning with her machine humming, Much laughter as shared with her sweet friends, Kay Clements and Carol Pace, who worked alongside her to make the uniforms. The floor was always covered with red threads and sequins, the doorbell ringing with girls and their moms to make the last fittings before the Mavettes headed to camp. She was the seamstress for about 11 years until the uniforms were bought commercially. Madlyn worked for 11 years for H&R Block before she and her partner and friend, Susie Payne, would open their own business, Associates Income Tax Service. She and Susie would work together even in separate locations for 30 years. Madlyn was still taking tax returns until she was 90 years old. She was known to her first three grandchildren as Grandmommy and Nana to all the rest. She loved cooking, hosting, and loving her children, grandchildren and all their friends. She was an exceptional mother and friend. She loved the Lord, her church and her family. If anything was ever broken, the kids would always say, "Nana fix", because she almost always could. If she couldn't fix it, it must have been something left to the Lord. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Madlyn's caregivers, Jill Mims, Debra Gulley, Kris McTyre, Tammy Cassio, Karen Roberts, Angelica Ledbetter, Ingia Parish and Christus Home Health. Visitation for Madlyn will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 1pm-2pm at Immanuel Baptist Church. Service will be held following the visitation at 2:00pm with Thad Carter officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Interment will be private. Online condolences may be offered at www.cammackfamily.com
