John Lynnval Hicks

John was born on March 18, 1951, in Houston, Texas to Claude Hicks, Jr. and Joy Hodges Hicks. He grew up in Houston and attended Mary Brantley Smiley High School, graduating in 1969. John went on to a career in HVAC, working for Winn Dixie and Kroger.
John married Gayle Sessions in 1971, and together they raised two children, Amber and John. They were happily married until Gayle's passing in 2011.
John was blessed with love again, and married Wendy Lewis, his devoted wife for 12 years. They enjoyed raising horses, a donkey, and other various wildlife on their small ranch outside of Longview which they affectionately named "Tweedle Creek". When not at home, they could be found riding their motorcycle around the US.
John is survived by his loving spouse, Wendy Lewis Hicks; daughter Amber Hicks Gorman, and husband Chuck Gorman, son John Aaron Hicks, and partner Brandon Latham; daughter Taylor Nicole Lewis; and five grandchildren, Cole, Madison, Jake, Colton, and Morgan. He is also survived by his sister Kathie Hicks Wittner and husband Rickey Wittner, and brother Daryl Russell Hicks and wife Darla Hicks, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at The Cammack Family Welch Funeral Home on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:00am.
