John Collins Life Story

Mr. John H. Collins, age 68, met Jesus face-to-face, on Sunday, August 18, 2024. John was surrounded by family members, at his home in Marshall, Texas, before moving to his mansion, just over the hilltop. Born in 1956, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Al and Doris Collins.

John married Susan Simpson Collins in 2001. They enjoyed boat riding and fishing at their neighborhood lake, especially when their children and grandchildren, would come fishing and swimming with them. They spent many evenings riding around their neighborhood on their golf cart, visiting with neighbors. Their favorite activity together was going on trips, including a hot air balloon ride in New Mexico that John surprised Susan with, and fun-filled cruises. John was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan while Susan always rooted for the Texas Longhorns. This team rivalry made for some interesting Saturdays watching college football games. After graduating from Davis High School in Davis, Oklahoma, John continued his education at East Central University in Ada, OK, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. After working many years in the oilfield industry, he retired from BP.

John was a member of Pope City Baptist Church in Jefferson, Texas.

John is survived by his wife of 23 years, Susan Simpson Collins, his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Christy Collins of Clarksville, Arkansas, his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Guy Hawk of Stilwell, Oklahoma, his bonus daughter and son-in-law, Sunny and Coby Hefler of Lindale, Texas, grandchildren John Walter and wife Katie, Eva, James, Zachary, Isaiah, and Alison. Other survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Bob Pattison of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and sister, Judy Jones of Red Oak, Oklahoma, brother-in-law Stewart Simpson and wife Debby of Jefferson, Texas, sister-in-law, Becky and husband Rock Dicke of Mason, Texas, mother-in-law, Dorothy Simpson Carter of Marshall, Texas, and numerous family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Doris Collins of Davis, Oklahoma, brother-in-law, Jimmy Jones of Red Oak, Oklahoma, and father-in-law, Henry Carter of Jefferson, Texas.
Also preceding him in death were his grandparents, Henry and Beulah Bethel of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and Mack and Clara Collins of Beggs, Oklahoma.

Private interment services will be held at a later date.
