JoEllen Case, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the early hours of Wednesday, March 19. JoJo, as she was called by her grandchildren, touched many lives throughout our community.
JoEllen was born in New Orleans in 1948 and grew up in Beaumont, graduating from Beaumont High School in 1966. After high school, she continued her education at Louisiana State University, where she completed her degree in Elementary Education. She settled in Houston and taught in the Aldine School District until 1978, when she moved to Dubai with her husband, Ed. Travel was one of her favorite things to do and the experience of living overseas for 5 years was one of her favorite memories.
In 1982 JoEllen and her family made Longview their home when she made the decision to place her children at Trinity Day School, later to become Trinity School of Texas. She quickly became involved with the school in many ways, from lunchroom volunteer to any and all aspects of the school community. Not only did JoEllen proudly raise two Trinity graduates, Carolyn and her younger brother Courtney, she was a Titan herself. With the birth of her grandchildren, JoEllen was belovedly known as JoJo by her two Titan grandchildren, Gabriel and Beatrix, in addition to so many students she served in the Commons lunch line through the years as a loyal and long-time volunteer. JoEllen was the Director of the Nursery at Trinity Episcopal Church and Director of Extended Enrichment at TST for many years. JoJo will forever be remembered for her servant heart and kind spirit.
While JoJo raised two children that are in the creative field, JoJo was the master of all things arts and crafts. She could decorate a cake like a designer, sew boutique-quality clothing, including several prom dresses for her daughter and granddaughter. She loved to make beautiful jewelry that many of her friends have worn for years. JoJo also loved to decorate extravagantly for every holiday, which made visiting always a new adventure! She was a woman that didn't like to be the center of attention, instead choosing to generously serve quietly from the background. But all that knew her recognized her kindness. She will truly be missed by many.
JoJo leaves behind her two children, Courtney Case and Carolyn Jagers and their respective spouses, Katie and Damian. She also leaves her two grandchildren, who were her shining stars, Gabriel and Beatrix Jagers.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation at the Cammack Family Funeral Home on Friday, March 28 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to either Trinity School of Texas or Arts Longview.
