Janice Worley Life Story
Janice Lynne Russell was born January 11, 1941 in Winfield Kansas to Carl and Ruby Russell. After moving to Texas, she met the love of her life, Jimmy Worley, and they married July 2, 1959. Janice graduated from Pine Tree High School.
Watching Gaithers’ videos, gardening and working with her plants and flowers, and taking care of the birds who visited her feeders and bird bath were some of Janice’s favorite activities. They all received the same special care she gave her children. The porch swing was a favorite place to sit with a child or grandchild and have a long visit. Her family remembers her love of music; and her singing and playing the piano in the church. She had a heart for the unsaved, wanting everyone to know her loving Savior. Noted in her prayer journal were daily prayers for her grandchildren by name, praying they would be faithful in service to the Lord.
A very special remembrance of Janice, after she was placed in assisted living and the effects of Alzheimer’s was taking her memory, was seeing her sit at the piano and playing “Amazing Grace,” with only slight difficulty.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jimmy, grandson Clint Strait, and four brothers: Douglas, Frank, Crawford and Randy Russell.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters: Donna and husband Steve Strait of Gilmer; Debbie and husband David Peurifoy of Longview; Karen and husband Shawn McAfee of Longview; Susan and husband Joe Tolleson of Longview; and one brother Billy Joe Russell and wife Ann. Janice is also survived by her grandchildren: Chad (Katherine) Strait, Jonathan Strait, Derek (Tara) Peurifoy, Drew (Chelsea) Peurifoy, Ryan McAfee, Brett McAfee, Trent Tolleson, Trey Tolleson, and Hayden McAfee; and five great-grandchildren: Alex, Cayson, Noah, Adler, and Ardyn.
The family wishes to thank HavenCare and all their staff for the excellent and loving care of their mother; and gratefully acknowledges Compass Hospice for the comfort they gave during her final days.
Service for Janice Worley will be Thursday, August 19, at 2 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Road, Longview, with Louis Meider officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 18, 6-8 p.m. in the Garden Court at Welch Funeral Home. Mrs. Worley left her earthly home and entered into eternal rest Saturday, August 14, surrounded by her four daughters and their husbands.
