James Lynn Mathis, of Hallsville, Texas, passed away in his home on June 21, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on September 5, 1955, in Tyler to James Earl Mathis and Dorthy Mosley Mathis, James was raised by his father, James Earl Mathis, and his stepmother, Mary Sue Mathis.

James is survived by his loving children: Megan Alexander and her husband Lawrence, and their son Leland; Kristin Jones and her husband Brandon, and their children Audrey and Davis; Ryan Mathis and his wife Wilda, and their children Alexis, Dravyn, Aspen, and Tucker; and his stepson Michael Gentry and his wife Susie, and their children Colter, Danielle, Logan, and Kenton.

James was a bodyman by trade and loved working with his hands, always finding satisfaction in tackling projects and bringing things back to life. He loved fixing up classic cars, appreciating the stories they carried and the joy of bringing them back to the road. James also had a deep love of music, which brought him comfort and joy throughout his life.

He loved to fish and run trotlines, spending countless days outdoors. His children have fond memories of camping and days at the lake with him, memories they will cherish forever.  James was generous and enjoyed caring for others, always ready to lend a hand or share what he had with those in need.

His family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, who carry forward his values of love, loyalty, generosity, and hard work.
