Irma Tanner Obituary (Died Friday, June 7, 2024)
Irmadine Flatt Tanner was born in Monroe, LA. She graduated from Louisiana Tech University and conducted research studies at Tulane University. She spent her professional career in corporate quality assurance and in environmental sciences. During her career, she held memberships in the American Society for Quality and the National and Texas Environmental Health Associations. Her last position prior to retirement was with the Lubbock Health Dept. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Marshall, Texas, and served on the Altar Guild for many years. Her hobbies included golf, flower gardening, bird watching, and reading. She often referred to herself as a scientist, which was very indicative of the curiosity she had with the world and her thirst for knowledge. She enthusiastically embraced technological advances and thought the ability to "Google" a wonder. With regards to her faith and spirituality, especially in her retirement years, she and Jerry were both very involved in the church. She believed in stepping in and helping where needed, which is how she began her service on the Altar Guild that continued for many years. As a bit of a pragmatist and realist, her favorite line from the liturgy was "not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offenses". She felt she had lived a good life and would meet the creator asking to be received "A lamb of thine own flock, a sinner of thine own redeeming". She always appreciated a traditional Episcopal service and never felt like Christmas until she had "thithered".
Irma married Jerry Tanner in Sharon, LA, on August 9, 1963. She is survived by her husband, Jerry and their children, Mark Tanner along with his wife, Donna Srader and Karen Tanner-Holt along with her husband, Wayne Holt. She is predeceased by her son Darren Tanner. She loved her children fiercely, always saying on any gift giving occasion that they were the greatest gift she ever received.
