Haslett Charles Rutledge Jr., a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2024, in Gilmer, Texas, at the age of 75. Born on August 6, 1948, in Marshall, Texas, he was a man of humor, and deep love for his family and friends. After graduating from Marshall High School in 1967, Haslett went on to have a fulfilling career, retiring from Texas Eastman Company.
Haslett's life was marked by his love for the outdoors; in his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, taking several trips to Colorado to elk hunt. Following his retirement, he became an avid fan of Fox News, the Houston Astros, and the Texas Rangers, often engaging in lively discussions and trash talk with his companions. Haslett attended New Hope Baptist Church and was very fond of telling everyone he had the "greatest preacher ever, Mr. Tony Pierce."
He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him: his daughters, Katherine Bates and her husband Albert, and Cheryl Harrell; his grandsons, Kory Beattie and his wife Kendall, Tanner Beattie, Collin (Brant) Beattie, and Tim (TJ) Harrell Jr.; and his great-granddaughters, Ember and Zoe Beattie. Haslett's life was enriched by the friendship of his longtime best friend, Ronnie Tuel, and his good friend, TJ Pounds.
He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Haslett Rutledge Sr.; his mother, Retha Rutledge; his brother, David Rutledge; and his son-in-law, Timothy Harrell Sr. They paved the way for him in life and now welcome him into eternal rest.
