Grace Winston Bentley, 94, of Longview, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior February 25, 2024, after a lengthy battle with dementia. She was born in Bernice, LA on Aug 12, 1929, to R. B. and Callie Lowrey.
Grace, a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother is survived by her son, Kirk Bentley, her six grandchildren Paige Williams, Drew Bentley, Winston Bentley, Rives Bentley, Micah Bentley, and Aiden Bentley; her great grandchildren Dean Williams and Aubree Bentley. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Hughes and Louise Thurmon; her brothers, Rives Lowrey and David Lowrey. Grace's first job was with Arkansas Fuel Oil Company, (Cities Service Company) in Shreveport, Louisiana in the early 50's. While employed, she won the Miss Arkansas Fuel Oil beauty contest. It was around this time, she was invited to a Centenary College fraternity dance where she happened to meet the love of her life Robert M. Bentley. They soon were married and started a family. Grace focused on rearing her four boys. The family relocated several times for her husband's work with Boy Scouts of America from Louisiana to Tennessee to Texas then to Oklahoma and eventually back to Texas. An avid lover of the arts, Grace took up oil painting in her adult years which became a favorite pastime.
Grace will be remembered for her friendly and sweet disposition as well as her winning smile. She will be missed, but we know she is resting peacefully.
A graveside service will take place March 7, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Weldon Baptist Church, 15059 Hwy Alt, Bernice, LA. 71222. A celebration of life to follow in the reception area.
