Everette Steele Life Story

A Mass of Christian Burail will be held for Mr. Everette "Mike" Steele on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Longview, Texas. Inurnment will follow at St. Matthew's Columbarium.

Everette Michael "Mike" Steele passed away on February 20, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a highly skilled machinist.

Born on October 3, 1943, in Atlanta, Texas, to Elmer and Sybil Steele, Mike graduated from Pine Tree High School and earned multiple technical certifications in machine work. He dedicated over 65 years to his family's business, E.E. Steele & Son.

Beyond his career, Mike had a deep passion for sports. In his younger years, he pitched briefly for the Baltimore Orioles' minor league team. His love for the game led him to coach baseball in White Oak, which sparked a long and distinguished career in officiating. A well-known figure in East Texas sports and beyond, he officiated for the Dixie League, Babe Ruth League, and various football leagues. His expertise and fairness on the field made him a highly sought-after official, and he was regularly requested to officiate in the Dixie League World Series. Most recently, he was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Longview TASO Chapter.

Mike was also an avid bowler, achieving multiple 300 games in league play. When he wasn't playing, he was watching-never missing a game from his favorite teams: the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and anything related to the University of Texas. True to his love of sports, on the night of his passing, he made sure the hospital staff kept him alert so he could watch the U.S.A. vs. Canada hockey game-a final testament to his lifelong passion for competition.

Mike had a big heart for animals and was a dedicated supporter of the ASPCA. He served as President of the Longview Kennel Club and actively showed dogs throughout the 1980s. He will be deeply missed by his beloved dogs, Dharma and Bugsy, and his cat, Bart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Terry; his parents; and his uncles, Glenn, Bobby, and Doug.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Stacy McMinn and her husband, Mike McMinn, and Katie Jordan and her husband, David Jordan; his sons, Scott Steele, Andrew Steele and his wife, Nathalie Steele, and Geoffrey Steele; his sister, Rhonda Wilson and her husband, Paul Wilson; his brothers, Randy Steele and his wife, Sandy Steele, and Keith Steele; as well as four nieces, ten nephews, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to:
