Everett Oney Life Story

Everett Clayton Oney, known warmly to friends and family as Everett, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, in his hometown of Harleton, Texas, surrounded by his cherished family, where his story began on December 17, 1934. His departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his legacy endures through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, his unwavering work ethic, and his love for his family. Everett was the embodiment of a life well-lived. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Gracie Mae Jackson Oney, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Together, they built a foundation of love and commitment that continues to inspire their family. Everett's journey on earth was preceded by his beloved Gracie Mae, his cherished grandson, Russell Kirk Oney, his dear parents Heskell and Frances Victoria (Smith) Oney, and his siblings Calvin, Vernon, Robert, Alice, Eugene, Fairy Mae, and Mabel, who all left indelible marks on his heart. Everett's legacy is carried on by his loving son, Kenneth Oney, and daughter-in-law, Sheryl, and his treasured daughter, Patricia Arden, and son-in-law, John. His spirit lives on in the laughter and adventures of his grandchildren Heather Shirts and her husband, Jay, Holly Luther and her husband, Joey, Joseph Arden, and Keasha Knopp and her husband, Marky. Everett was blessed with great-grandchildren Hunter and Gage Shirts; Kendall, Warren, Rosie, and Jasper Luther; and Keegan Arden and his wife, Samantha; and Trace and Lucien Knopp. The twinkle of his eye shone brightest upon meeting his great-great-granddaughter, Tallulah Arden. His sisters, Juanita Davidson and her husband, Jerry, and Faye Toombs and her husband, James, and his brother, Denver Oney, will remember his brotherly love and guidance. Everett's memory will be forever cherished by numerous other family members and a host of friends who became like family. Everett was a man of many talents and dedicated his professional life to mastering the art of mechanics. He spent many fulfilling years with Marshall Ford and Marshall Chevrolet, where his expertise and passion for old cars made him a respected figure. His commitment to his community was further demonstrated through his 20 years of service at Harleton ISD, from which he retired. Retirement for Everett was never about slowing down but rather an opportunity to indulge in his love for hunting, fishing, and cherishing every moment with his beloved family. A friend to many and a stranger to none, Everett's reputation as a hard worker was matched only by his reputation as a people person. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, share a story, or offer words of wisdom. His generous spirit and engaging personality will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Terry Gerber for her compassionate care and support, which was a source of great comfort to Everett and his loved ones during his final days. Everett Clayton Oney's journey on earth has concluded, but the seeds of love, integrity, and generosity he planted will continue to grow and flourish in the lives of those he left behind. His story is not one of sorrow, but of celebration-a celebration of a life that was full, a heart that was kind, and a presence that was truly larger than life. May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a beacon of light for generations to come. A celebration of Everett's life will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at 10:00am at The Cammack Family Sullivan Funeral Home with Bro. Craig Evers officiating. A brief time of visitation will be held following the service with interment at Piney Cemetery in Harleton where he will be laid to rest beside his wife.
