Life Story

Eugene Jeanette Harding was born in Cement City, Dallas County to William H. and Racheal Neal Kelsey on October 2, 1922. She was one of five children. Jeanne married the love of her life, Charles E. Harding in 1946 and were married 58 years. She and Charles moved to California with the military, and she worked in the aviation plant building airplanes to support the war cause. Jeanne and Charles owned a bar in Houston called the Broken H. They had 2 children, Cheryl and Charles II. Jeanne had numerous jobs including owning a knit shop, working in a jewelry store, a band and a pottery shop. She volunteered at the Hallsville Food Bank. Jeanne was an active member of First Methodist Church of Hallsville, Texas and was known as the "Cake Lady" because of all the cakes and desserts that she made for functions at the church. More than anything, Jeanne loved her family and spending time with them.

Gone before her are her husband, her daughter, her siblings and her parents. Left to cherish her memory are her son Charles Harding II and wife Karen; her grandson Michael Toland and wife Donna and their children Austin and Addison; her grandson, Timothy Toland and wife Bailey and great grandchildren Piper and Grady, Payton Toland Davis, Camryn Toland and Ashton Toland; her grandson Charles Harding III and wife Katia and children Janelle and Olivia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers the donations may be made in Mrs. Hardings Memory to the Hallsville Food Bank or Hallsville First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Hallsville First United Methodist Church.
